Preventing NTM Contamination In Drinking Water
How Ultrafiltration using Hollow Fiber Membrane Filters help prevent Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) disease:
Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) disease is caused by various species of mycobacteria other than Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium responsible for tuberculosis. NTM bacteria are found in water and soil environments worldwide and can cause a range of infections in humans, primarily affecting the lungs but also other parts of the body such as skin and soft tissues. Individuals with compromised immune systems, such as those with cystic fibrosis, or undergoing immunosuppressive therapy, are at higher risk of NTM infections. Additionally, those with pre-existing lung conditions such as bronchiectasis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are also more susceptible.
